Income and Poverty in Washington County, Rhode Island

In Washington County, Rhode Island White householders had a median income (2005 Dollars) of $63,120 according to the Decennial Census of 2000, which was 1.6 percent greater than the median household income in 2000. The American Indian and Alaska Native households in Washington County reported a median household income of $29,250, this median was 52.9 percent less than the median for all households. Washington County, Rhode Island is made up of a very highly-educated population, with 35.4 percent of the population over 25 years old having received at least a Bachelors Degree, according to the Decennial Census of 2000. Washington has a higher percent of individuals with higher educations than the State of Rhode Island's proportion of 25.6 percent and a higher percent than United States proportion of 24.4 percent.

The 2000 Decennial Census reported that in Washington County, Rhode Island, the largest educational attainment category for men is the Bachelors Degree or Higher category, with 37.2 percent receiving this level of education. The women in Washington on average have achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors or Higher) than the men in the area: 37.2 percent (Men) versus 34 percent (Women). The most common level of education for women in the area is Bachelors Degree or Higher category, with 34 percent of the areas female population attaining this level of education.

Between 2000 and 2005, the percent of the male population that can be understood as highly educated has increased by 3.6 percent. Demographic Profile for Washington County, Rhode Island

Washington County, Rhode Island has a population that is made of 93.5 percent White, 1 percent African American, 1.9 percent Asian, and 1.8 percent Hispanic. The population mix can be considered to have a very modest level of diversity in terms of race and ethnicity, with 4.7 percent of the population being minorities.
