Income and Poverty in Carter County, Tennessee

The American Indian and Alaska Native headed households in Carter County had a median income of $27,349, this level was 14.6 percent less than the median level for total households in the area. Carter County, Tennessee has a population that is made up of 96.1 percent White, 1.6 percent African American, 0.3 percent Asian, and 1.2 percent Hispanic. This area can be considered to have a very modest amount of racial and ethnic diversity, with 3.1 percent minorities. This is less than the State of Tennessee percent of 20.9. Since 2000, Carter has increased the percent of minority population when 2.2 percent of the population was made up of minorities.
