Shelby County, Tennessee has a population base that is comprised of 42.5 percent White, 51 percent African American, 2 percent Asian, and 3.4 percent Hispanic. The area can be described as having a very high level of diversity in terms of race and ethnicity, with 56.4 percent of the population made up of minorities.
