Income and Poverty in Union County, Tennessee

When put side-by-side with other counties (or parishes) throughout the United States, Union County, Tennessee can be recognized as having a relatively high poverty rate amongst the population, with a poverty rate of 19.6 percent of people living in a family with an income below the poverty level in 1999. Union County, Tennessee has a population that is made of 97.4 percent White, 0.6 percent African American, 0.1 percent Asian, and 1 percent Hispanic. The area population base can be described as having a very modest level of diversity in terms of race and ethnicity, with 1.7 percent of the population made up of minorities.
