Demographic Profile for Colorado County, Texas

When calculating the total land area, Colorado extends a total area of 963 square miles. This area has a low average population density of 22 persons per square mile. Similar counties in the US, in terms of density, include: -- more densely populated -- Clarke, AL (22 per sq. mile ), Tallahatchie, MS (22 per sq. mile ), Pennington, MN (22 per sq. mile ), -- less densely populated -- Ripley, MO (22 per sq. mile ), Miller, GA (22 per sq. mile ), Barton, MO (22 per sq. mile ).

Colorado County, Texas has a population that is comprised of 63 percent White, 13.7 percent African American, 0.3 percent Asian, and 22.5 percent Hispanic. The area population base can be described as having a high amount of racial and ethnic diversity, with 36.5 percent of the population made up of minorities. This is less than the State of Texas percent of 49.5. Since 2000, Colorado has increased in diversity when 35.0 percent of the people were minorities.

Since 2000, a high number of individual migrated to the Colorado from another country. The international migration into Colorado totals 0.1 percent of all immigration into Texas. This amount of international migration is high when comparing levels of immigration per population in 2005.

Colorado County, Texas had a population of 20,736 in 2005. The estimated population has increased, since the 2000 total population of 20,358. This growth shows an increase of 1.9 percent. Colorado ranks 115 of 254 counties in terms of population growth in Texas and the county ranks 1,488 of 3,141 counties when analyzing total county population change across the nation.
