Demographic Profile for Comal County, Texas

Estimated since the year 2000, a medium-high number of individual migrated to the Comal from outside the country. The immigration into Comal accounts for 0.1 percent of the total international migration into the State of Texas. This amount of international migration is medium-high when compared to international migration per 2005 population.

In terms of total land area, Comal covers a total land area of 561 square miles. The county has a medium-low average population density of 171 persons per square mile. Similar counties in the US, in terms of density, include: -- more densely populated -- Wayne, IN (171 per sq. mile ), Morgan, IN (172 per sq. mile ), Los Alamos, NM (172 per sq. mile ), -- less densely populated -- Grant, IN (170 per sq. mile ), Madison, TN (170 per sq. mile ), Rankin, MS (170 per sq. mile ).

Comal County, Texas had a population that was estimated at 96,018 in 2005. The total population has increased very sharply, since its 2000 population of 78,799. In the year 2005, the population division of U.S. Census Bureau estimates the median age in Comal County, Texas to be 37.3 years old. The median in Comal is greater than the median age for the State of Texas of 33.2. Since 2000, the area has experienced a decline in the median age, at that time the median was 39.1 years old. Comal County, Texas has a population that is made up of 73.4 percent White, 1.3 percent African American, 0.6 percent Asian, and 23.7 percent Hispanic. The population mix can be considered to have a high amount of racial and ethnic diversity, with 25.6 percent of the population being minorities. This is less than the State of Texas percent of 49.5. Since 2000, Comal has increased in diversity when 24.1 percent of the total population were minorities.
