Demographic Profile for Midland, TX

Estimated since the year 2000, a medium-high amount of people migrated into the Midland metro area, with 967 people migrating in internationally. The migration from outside the US into Midland totals 0.1 percent of immigration into the State of Texas. This percent of immigration can be considered medium-high when comparing levels of immigration per population in 2005.

The Midland metro area had a population that was estimated at 121,371 in the year 2005. The population has increased sharply, since the 2000 total population of 115,540. This growth denotes an increase of 5 percent. Midland ranks 16 of 25 MSAs by growth in total population in Texas and the metro area ranks 223 of 361 metro areas in terms of population growth in the United States.

When measuring the total land area, the Midland metro area covers a total land area of 900 square miles. The land areas has a medium-low population density of 135 persons per square mile, in 2005. The Midland metropolitan statistical area (MSA) has a population that is made up of 57.3 percent White, 6.7 percent African American, 0.9 percent Asian, and 34.1 percent Hispanic. The area population base can be described as having a very high level of diversity, with 41.7 percent of the population made up of minorities. This is less than the State of Texas percent of 49.5. Since 2000, Midland has increased the percent of minority population when 37.1 percent of the people were minorities.
