The Corpus Christi Metro Area: One-Year Percentage Decline in Employment

The Local messengers and local delivery industry has lost the largest amount of employment in terms of percentage, losing 62.3 percent from 2005 (Q2) to 2006 (Q2). The losses of the area have declined faster than the industry has experienced in the State of Texas, where the industry sector experienced a loss of 0.2 percent. The losses in the Local messengers and local delivery industry in Corpus Christi outpaced the losses of nation as a whole in the industry. In this time period, the nation lost 0.4 percent in terms of employees in the Local messengers and local delivery industry.

Income and Poverty in Corpus Christi, TX

The median household income in the area has declined from the inflation-adjusted 2000 income levels. The income level has decreased to $38,158, posting a 8.8 percent decline. The Corpus Christi, TX MSA, when comparing total percent of decline, ranks 15 of 22 metro area in percent of decline for income levels in the State of Texas. Corpus Christi ranks 104 of 233 metro area when comparing total percent of decline in median income level for the United States.

When compared to other Metro Areas throughout the United States, the Corpus Christi metro area had a medium-low median income for all households of $41,854 (Adjusted to 2005 Dollars). This is 11.6 percent lower than the median in Texas of $46,715 and the median is 17.4 percent lower than the median household income level in the US of $49,133.

Black or African American headed households had median income levels that were 33.5 percent less than the total 2000 reported median, with a their median reported to be $27,812. Hispanic households in Corpus Christi, TX recorded a median income of $33,965, this median is 18.8 percent less than reported value of the areas total household median income for all households. The American Indian and Alaska Native householders in Corpus Christi reported an income level of $34,534, this was 17.5 percent less than the median for all households. Individuals aged 5 years have the most percent of people living in poverty in Corpus Christi, having 27.4 percent of this age cohort living in poverty.

The rate of poverty in the Corpus Christi, TX Metro has increased by 0.3 percent since the amount published in 2000, moving from 18.2 percent to 18.5 percent.

While household income level experienced a decline in the last five year in the Corpus Christi, TX metro area, the Race/Ethnicity category that felt the biggest decline in household income was the Hispanic Race/Ethnicity category. This group experienced a decline of 27.8 percent since 2000. The Asian population category was least influenced by the median household income decline in Corpus Christi, undergoing a 43.4 percent increase in median income, since the values reporting the 2000 Decennial Census.
