Income and Poverty in Ector County, Texas

While the median household income saw a decline since 2000 in Ector County, Texas, the Race/Ethnicity category that saw the sharpest decline in household income was the American Indian and Alaska Native category. This category saw a decline of 28.6 percent from 2000 to 2005. The Black or African American population category was least influenced by the median household income decline in Ector County, experiencing a 19.4 percent increase in median household income from 2000 to 2005.

It was reported in 2000 that the Asian headed households had median household incomes of $68,542. This income level is 88.1 percent greater than the reported median for all households in the area. From 2000, Ector has decreased in the total percent of the over 25 population having a Bachelors Degree or Higher. This population group has declined by 0.6 percent to a total of 11.4 percent in 2005. The American Community Survey reports that the proportion of the 2005 population that is highly educated is less than the State of Texas percent of 25.2 and less than the average US percent of 27.2.

In Ector County, Texas according to the Decennial Census of 2000, 13.4 percent of the White Alone, 7.8 percent of Black or African American, 56.4 percent of the Asian alone and 4.4 percent of the Hispanic or Latino population, over the age 25, has achieved a Bachelors Degree or Higher.

From the years 2000 to 2005, the proportion of the male population that could be considered highly educated has decreased by 2.8 percent. By the year 2005, 10.2 percent of area's male population, over the age 25, achieved a Bachelors Degree or Higher. The population division of the Census Bureau estimates in 2005 a median age in Ector County, Texas to be 32.3 years of age. The median age in Ector is less than the median in Texas of 33.2. Since the year 2000, the area has witnessed an increase in the median age, at that time the median was 32.1 years old. With 29.7 percent of the population in 2005 being comprised of children and youth younger than 18, Ector can be described as being made up of a relatively high proportion of youths. The 18 to 64 years old population group has a medium-low representation within the population, making up 59.3 percent of the population within the age group. People 65 and older make up 11 percent of the total population base. Compared to other counties throughout the nation, this represents a medium-low proportion of the area population base.

Employment Report for Ector County, Texas -- Annual 2005 Industry Summary

Manufacturing between the years 2001 and 2005, saw the greatest loss in employment in Ector County. The industry was hit with a loss of 991 jobs, or 21.5 percent of employment in the sector. These losses made up 67 percent of all county employment losses since 2001.
