Income and Poverty in Fort Bend County, Texas

The median household income in the area has declined from the inflation-adjusted 2000 income levels. The income level has decreased to $70,229, which amounts to a 6 percent decline. From 2000 to 2005, the percent of the male population that can be considered highly educated has increased by 3.0 percent. In the year 2005, 43 percent of the total male population, in the area, has obtained at least a Bachelors Degree. From 2000 to 2005, the percent of women with a Bachelors or Higher has increased by a total of 3.2 percent. By the year 2005, a total of 36.8 percent of the total female population achieved this high level of education.

Demographic Profile for Fort Bend County, Texas

The U.S. Census Bureau, in the year 2005, estimated a median age in Fort Bend County, Texas to be 33.4 years of age. The median in Fort Bend is greater than the median age in Texas of 33.2. Since the year 2000, the area has witnessed no change in the median, when the median age was 33.4 years of age. With a total of 27.6 percent of the 2005 population being made up of children and youth younger than 18, Fort Bend can be described as having a relatively high proportion of youths. The 18 to 64 years old population group has a relatively high representation within the population, making up 66.2 percent of the population makes up this age category. The retirement (65 and over) age group comprises 6.2 percent of the total population base. Compared to other counties throughout the nation, this represents a relatively low proportion of the population.

Fort Bend County, Texas has a population that is made of 40.8 percent White, 20.7 percent African American, 14.7 percent Asian, and 22.5 percent Hispanic.
