Income and Poverty in Titus County, Texas

Compared to counties across the United States, Titus County accounted a medium-low median household income of $37,969 (2005 Dollars). This median is 23 percent lower than the median in State of Texas of $46,715 and the income level is 29.4 percent lower than the median household income in the United States of $49,133.

In Titus County, Texas as reported in the Census of the year 2000, 15.4 percent of the White Alone, 8.8 percent of Black or African American, 48.8 percent of the Asian alone and 2 percent of the Hispanic or Latino population, over the age 25, has achieved at least a Bachelors Degree.

The 2000 Decennial Census reported that in Titus County, Texas, the largest educational attainment category for men is the Less than High School category, with 36.2 percent receiving this level of education. The women in Titus on average have achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors or Higher) than the men in the area: 13.4 percent (Men) versus 12.8 percent (Women). A high proportion of the female population in the area has reached the Less than High School category, with 33 percent of the women population in the area achieving this level of education.

Titus County, Texas is made up of a moderately-educated 2000 population, with 13.2 percent of the population (+25) having received a BA or higher, as reported the 2000 Decennial Census. In 2005, the Census Bureau estimated the median age in Titus County, Texas to be 32.0 years old. The median in Titus is less than the median in Texas of 33.2. Since the year 2000, the area has seen an increase in this median, when at that time it was 31.9 years old. With a total of 30.5 percent of the population in 2005 being comprised of children and youth younger than 18, Titus can be described as being made up of a relatively high proportion of youths.
