Income and Poverty in Travis County, Texas

Higher Education in Travis County, Texas

Since the year 2000, Travis has increased in the population percent with a Bachelors Degree or Higher. This population percent has grown by 2.2 percent to a total of 42.8 percent in 2005, according to the American Community Survey. The 2005 proportion of highly educated population is greater than the State of Texas percent of 25.2 and greater than the average US percent of 27.2.

From 2000 to 2005, the percent of the male population that can be considered highly educated has increased by 2.0 percent. By the year 2005, 44 percent of area's male population, over the age 25, achieved a Bachelors Degree or Higher. When calculating the total land area, Travis encompasses a total area of 989 total square miles. The area has a high average area density of 898 persons per square mile. Similar counties in the US, in terms of density, include: -- more densely populated -- Wake, NC (900 per sq. mile ), Bedford city, VA (902 per sq. mile ), New Hanover, NC (903 per sq. mile ), -- less densely populated -- Erie, NY (891 per sq. mile ), Davis, UT (881 per sq. mile ), Ocean, NJ (878 per sq. mile ).
