In Luna County, New Mexico, the aggregate employment for all industry sectors has increased by 8.5%, or 636 jobs, total between the years 2002 and 2006. Given the industries in the area, the Agriculture and forestry support activities industry faced the greatest employment loss with a total loss of 381 jobs during the time period. The jobs lost in Agriculture and forestry support activities makes up 21.7% percent of the jobs lost during the period in Luna County, New Mexico. Top Declining Industries: 1. Agriculture and forestry support activities (381 jobs lost) 2. Food manufacturing (208 jobs lost) 3. Crop production (72 jobs lost) 4. Merchant wholesalers, nondurable goods (14 jobs lost) 5. Construction of buildings (12 jobs lost) Out of the 3-digit NAICS industries, the Justice, public order, and safety activities industry has added the most employment with 306 new jobs created in the period. The job growth in Justice, public order, and safety activities makes up 20.9% percent of the growth in Luna County, New Mexico. Top Growing Industries: 1. Justice, public order, and safety activities (306 new jobs) 2. General merchandise stores (198 new jobs) 3. Credit intermediation and related activities (122 new jobs) 4. Heavy and civil engineering construction (115 new jobs) 5. Executive, legislative and general government (72 new jobs) Out of the 109 industries with industry data reported by the BLS in each year, 45 did not change, 38 reported job growth in the duration of the last five years, and 26 industry sectors accounting for employment declines during that time period.
