BLS Economic Update for Calhoun County, Florida

From the 63 industries with industry data reported by the BLS in each year, 24 did not experience any change, 17 described an expansion of jobs throughout the time period, and 22 industry sectors reported declines during the time period.Given the industries in the area, the Merchant wholesalers, nondurable goods industry experienced most substantial job loss, losing 49 jobs in that time period. The declines in Merchant wholesalers, nondurable goods makes up 8.3% percent of the employment lost during the period in Calhoun County, Florida. Top Declining Industries: 1. Merchant wholesalers, nondurable goods (49 jobs lost) 2. Personal and laundry services (46 jobs lost) 3. Heavy and civil engineering construction (43 jobs lost) 4. Gasoline stations (33 jobs lost) 5. Credit intermediation and related activities (25 jobs lost) The Social assistance industry has accounted the most employment growth with a total of 34 new jobs created in the period. The job growth in Social assistance makes up 8.0% percent of the total growth in Calhoun County, Florida. Top Growing Industries: 1. Social assistance (34 new jobs) 2. Food and beverage stores (32 new jobs) 3. Forestry and logging (18 new jobs) 4. Specialty trade contractors (11 new jobs) 5. Food services and drinking places (4 new jobs) In Calhoun County, Florida, the aggregate employment for all industry sectors has increased by 1.0%, or 29 jobs, from 2001 to 2006.
