Demographic Profile for Albemarle County, Virginia

By measuring total land area, Albemarle covers a total land area of 723 square miles. This area has a medium-low density of 126 persons per square mile. Similar counties in the US, in terms of density, include: -- more densely populated -- Saline, AR (126 per sq. mile ), Robertson, TN (127 per sq. mile ), Centre, PA (127 per sq. mile ), -- less densely populated -- Bossier, LA (126 per sq. mile ), Merced, CA (125 per sq. mile ), Grayson, TX (125 per sq. mile ).

Since the year 2000, a very high amount of people have migrated to Albemarle from another country. The international migration into Albemarle makes up 1.5 percent of all immigration into Virginia. Housing Report for Albemarle County, Virginia

In Albemarle County, the U.S. Census Bureau, Population Division accounted for a total of 39,065 housing units in the year 2005. This represents a growth in housing units, adding all together 4,615 homes since 2001, or 13.4 percent.
