Amherst County, Virginia had a population of 32,134 for the year 2005. The total population has increased, since the 2000 total population of 31,898. This growth shows an increase of 0.7 percent. Amherst ranks 79 of 134 counties when analyzing total population change in Virginia and the county ranks 1,623 of 3,141 counties when calculating the total change in county population across the US.
