Income and Poverty in Fauquier County, Virginia

Higher Education in Fauquier County, Virginia

In Fauquier County, Virginia as reported in the Census of the year 2000, 29.2 percent of the White Alone, 6.4 percent of Black or African American, 35 percent of the Asian alone and 25.6 percent of the Hispanic or Latino population (over 25) has obtained a Bachelors Degree or Higher.

According to the 2000 Decennial Census in Fauquier County, Virginia, the most common level of education achieved in the area for the male population is the Bachelors Degree or Higher category, with 28.6 percent achieving this level. The female population in Fauquier have achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors or Higher) than the men in the area: 28.6 percent (Men) versus 25.6 percent (Women). Many of the women in the area have achieved the Some College or Associates Degree category, with 31.6 percent of women in the area reaching this education level.

Demographic Profile for Fauquier County, Virginia

In the year 2005, the population division of U.S. Census Bureau estimates the median age in Fauquier County, Virginia to be 38.2 years of age. The median in Fauquier is greater than the median in Virginia of 37.2. Since the year 2000, the area has witnessed an increase in the median age, when it was 37.9 years of age. With a total of 24.5 percent of the 2005 population being comprised of individuals under the age of 18, Fauquier can be understood as having a medium-high percent of individuals under 18. The working age population group (18-64) has a medium-high presence of the 2005 population base, with 65 percent of the population falling in this age category. The retirement (65 and over) group makes up 10.5 percent of the population. When compared to other counties in the United States, this represents a medium-low proportion of the population.

Since 2000, a medium-high number of individual migrated to the Fauquier internationally. The international migration into Fauquier totals 0.3 percent of the total migration into the State of Virginia. This amount of international migration is medium-high when analyzed against the base population in the year 2005 and compared to other counties across the US.

When measuring the total land area, Fauquier extends a total area of 650 square miles. This area has a medium-low population density of 100 persons per square mile, in 2005.
