In Loudoun County, jobs in the software publishers pay the highest wages

Loudoun County Industry Wages Exceed Virginia, and Wages Exceed the United States

Loudoun County Five-Year Industry Employment Change

The total number of jobs has increased by 27.6 percent since the 2nd Quarter figures of 2001. This change is greater than percent in Virginia, which experienced a gain of 5.2 percent from the 2nd Quarter of 2001. The gains were greater than than the gain felt at the national level of 2.6 percent.

The Travel arrangement and reservation services industry has lost the biggest percent of jobs, losing 68.3 percent of the jobs from the 2nd quarter of 2001 to 2nd quarter of 2006. The losses of the area have declined faster than the industry sector has felt in the State of Virginia, where the industry sector experienced a loss of 43.2 percent. The losses in the Travel arrangement and reservation services industry in Loudoun County outpaced the United States industry losses overall. During this period, the United States lost 22.6 percent in terms of employment in the Travel arrangement and reservation services industry.

Income and Poverty in Loudoun County, Virginia

The areas median household income has increased from the 2000 values (inflation adjusted). The median income has increased to $98,483, representing a 4.4 percent growth. Higher Education in Loudoun County, Virginia

Since 2000, Loudoun has increased in the total percent of the over 25 population having a Bachelors Degree or Higher. This population group has grown by 8.4 percent to a total of 55.6 percent in 2005, as reported by the American Community Survey. The proportion of the 2005 population having received at least a BA is greater than the State of Virginia percent of 33.2 and greater than the United States percent of 27.2.

Between 2000 and 2005, the percent of the male population that can be understood as highly educated has increased by 5.8 percent. As reported in 2005, 57.8 percent of total male population (over 25), in this area, held at least a Bachelors Degree. At the same time, the percent of women (over 25) holding a BA or higher has increased by a total of 10.6 percent. By 2005, a total of 53.6 percent of the female population had achieved this level of education.

In 2000, the Census reported that in Loudoun County, Virginia, the most common level of education achieved in the area for the male population is the Bachelors Degree or Higher category, with 51.8 percent achieving this level. The female population in Loudoun on average have achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors Degree or Higher) than the male population-- 51.8 percent (Men) versus 43 percent (Women). A high proportion of the female population in the area has reached the Bachelors Degree or Higher category, with 43 percent of the female population achieving this education level.

Loudoun County, Virginia is made up of a very highly-educated working age population, with 47.2 percent of the population over 25 years old having received at least a Bachelors Degree, according to the Decennial Census of 2000. Loudoun has a higher percent of individuals with higher educations than the State of Virginia's proportion of 29.4 percent and a higher percent than the average across the nation of 24.4 percent.

In Loudoun County, Virginia as reported in the Census of the year 2000, 49 percent of the White Alone, 32 percent of Black or African American, 53 percent of the Asian alone and 24.8 percent of the Hispanic or Latino population, over the age 25, has achieved at least a Bachelors Degree.

Demographic Profile for Loudoun County, Virginia

Loudoun County, Virginia had a population of 255,518 in 2005. The estimated population has increased very sharply, from the population in the year 2000 of 173,963. This growth denotes an increase of 46.9 percent. Loudoun ranks 1 of 134 counties when calculating total change in population for Virginia and the county ranks 30 of 3,141 counties when analyzing total county population change across the nation.

The population division of the Census Bureau estimates in 2005 a median age in Loudoun County, Virginia to be 32.6 years old. The median in Loudoun is less than the median in Virginia of 37.2. Since the year 2000, the area has seen a decline in this median, when at that time it was 33.5 years old. With 29 percent of the population in 2005 being comprised of children and youth younger than 18, Loudoun can be described as being made up of a relatively high percent of individuals under 18. The working age population group (18-64) has a relatively high representation within the population, making up 65.7 percent of the population makes up this age category. The retirement (65 and over) age group comprises 5.3 percent of the population in the area.
