The total number of jobs has decreased by 8.1 percent since the 2nd Quarter of 2001. This is greater than percent in Virginia, which went through a gain of 5.2 percent since 2001 ( 2nd Quarter). The losses in the area were greater than than the gain experienced overall in the US of 2.6 percent.

Patrick County One-Year Industry Employment Change

Employment for all industries has increased by 6 percent from 2005 (2nd Quarter). These figures are greater than growth in the State of Virginia, which went through a gain of 1.9 percent from 2005 (2nd Quarter). The gains the area experienced were greater than than the gain reported at the US level of 2.0 percent.

Income and Poverty in Patrick County, Virginia

In terms of total land area, Patrick encompasses a total area of 483 total square miles. The area has a low density of 40 persons per square mile. Similar counties in the US, in terms of density, include: -- more densely populated -- Austin, TX (40 per sq. mile ), Northampton, NC (40 per sq. mile ), Clallam, WA (40 per sq. mile ), -- less densely populated -- Maverick, TX (40 per sq. mile ), Holmes, FL (40 per sq. mile ), Houston, TN (40 per sq. mile ).
