Income and Poverty in Washington County, Virginia

When put side-by-side with other counties (or parishes) throughout the United States, Washington County, Virginia can be recognized as having a medium-low rate of poverty among its population, accounting a rate of 10.9 percent of the population with family incomes below the 1999 poverty level. Washington County, Virginia is made up of a moderately-educated 2000 population, with 16.2 percent of the over 25 years old population having a Bachelors Degree or Higher, according to the 2000 Decennial Census. Washington has a lower percent of population with this high education level than the State of Virginia's proportion of 29.4 percent and a lower percent than the average across the nation of 24.4 percent.
